The Overton Bobcats had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They secured a 57-52 W over Lawson. Given Overton's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Lawson is ranked 261st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Overton had a senior duo take command as Kyree Christian scored 19 points and William Carter scored 19 points. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Carter has scored at least 25% of Overton's points. Another player making a difference was Wesley Howard, who scored eight points.
Overton pushed their record up to 9-1 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.2 points per game. As for Lawson, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Overton will be home for the holidays to greet KIPP Nashville Collegiate at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. KIPP Nashville Collegiate is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Lawson will be home for the holidays to greet Cheatham County Central at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Cheatham County Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Friday.
