Fountain-Fort Carson (Fountain, Colo.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. nine in Colorado, but was stunned by
Valor Christian (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), 40-0. Valor Christian was ranked at No. 13 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Colorado coming into the week.
After taking the lead on a field goal by
Brandon Spencer in the second quarter, the Eagles led 17-0 at the half.
Valor Christian expanded its lead to 33 points entering the fourth quarter. VC scored three times in the third, including once on a
Christian McCaffrey touchdown run.
The loss snapped the Trojans' 4-game winning streak.
McCaffrey stood out for the Highlands Ranch school in the win. The junior running back ran for three touchdowns and caught one touchdown. He has now scored 12 touchdowns on the season.
The defeat comes as a step back for Fountain-Fort Carson, which notched a 33-7 victory over Palmer in its previous outing. With the win the Eagles extended their winning streak to three games.
Valor Christian (3-2) goes up against Castle View in a non-conference game matchup next week, while Fountain-Fort Carson (4-1) locks horns with Legend in a 5A Pioneer game.
