Buckhorn is 0-3 against Lee County since April of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Buckhorn will bounce into Friday's match after beating Owsley County, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Owls / Lady Owls with a sharp 15-6 win on Wednesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Meanwhile, Lee County waltzed into their contest on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 6-0 win. The Bobcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by six runs or more this season.
Preslee Cundiff was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Trinity Price, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Willow Tipton, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Lee County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Lee County's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-8. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Buckhorn, their record now sits at 5-13.
Buckhorn might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Lee County in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
