The Sankofa Freedom Academy Warriors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. They fell to Frankford 47-42. The match was a 18-18 toss-up at halftime, but Sankofa Freedom Academy was outscored by Frankford in the second.
Sankofa Freedom Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Asim Hardy, who scored 11 points along with four steals. Hardy's trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for five games straight. Another player making a difference was Nasir WIlliams, who scored 13 points.
Frankford found their leader in underclassman Doron Ross, who scored 12 points along with three steals. Ross is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Laquan Harrison, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds.
Sankofa Freedom Academy has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season. As for Frankford, their win bumped their record up to 5-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sankofa Freedom Academy will square off against Math Civics & Sciences at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Math Civics & Sciences presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Sankofa Freedom Academy in Pennsylvania (Math Civics & Sciences is ranked 91st, while Sankofa Freedom Academy is ranked 353rd). As for Frankford, they will head out on the road to take on Academy at Palumbo at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Academy at Palumbo will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
