Sunrise Mountain headed into their last contest having not scored more than two runs for five straight, but Democracy Prep Agassi Campus let them put that streak behind them. Sunrise Mountain was the clear victor by a 13-3 margin over Democracy Prep Agassi Campus on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Miners in their matchups with the Blue Knights: they've now won three in a row.
Zidro Solis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Solis was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Elton Whitehead was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Jonathan Hernadez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Sunrise Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Cheyenne typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Del Sol proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Desert Shields by a score of 5-2. The game was the first time the Dragons have beaten the Desert Shields on their field since March 28, 2017.
Like Sunrise Mountain, Del Sol also got a great game from a two-way player: Erik Gonzalez. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Gonzalez was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for Del Sol: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-5 otherwise.
Gonzalez wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Oscar Carrington, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Del Sol is undefeated when Carrington posts two or more runs, but 1-5 otherwise. Another was Bryan Sanchez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
The win got Del Sol back to even at 5-5. As for Sunrise Mountain, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
Sunrise Mountain might still be hurting after the 13-3 loss they got from Del Sol in their previous matchup back in March of 2019. Can Sunrise Mountain avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
