Basketball Recap: Plateau Valley Comes Up Short

After a string of three wins, Plateau Valley's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 49-48 to the De Beque Dragons. The Cowboys were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Dragons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Plateau Valley still got an impressive performance from Emaline Ealey, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. Ealey has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 13 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Macy Bevan, who posted nine points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks.

Even though they lost, Plateau Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

De Beque's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Avery Rigsby, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave Rigsby a new career-high in assists (seven). Another player making a difference was Allyson Sandidge, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Plateau Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for De Beque, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Plateau Valley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 61-25 victory against Hayden on the 11th. As for De Beque, they will face off against Vail Mountain at 5:30 p.m. on January 17th. De Beque is facing Vail Mountain at the right time seeing as Vail Mountain is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
