Jackson-Reed has gone a perfect 8-0 against Roosevelt recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Tigers will face off against the Roughriders at 4:00 p.m. Jackson-Reed will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Jackson-Reed is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of District of Columbia's top teams: Eastern, who was ranked ninth at the time (Jackson-Reed was ranked first). The Tigers were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Ramblers on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Zander Leckszas looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jackson Loomis was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Evan Rosario was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs.
Jackson-Reed was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in five consecutive contests.
School Without Walls hit Roosevelt with a six-run third inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Roughriders came up short against the Penguins, falling 11-4. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 1, 2022, but that streak is no more.
Jackson-Reed pushed their record up to 17-4 with the victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Roosevelt, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
Roosevelt's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Jackson-Reed hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .379. It's a different story for Roosevelt, though, as they've only averaged .256. Will they be able to contain Jackson-Reed's hitters?
Everything went Jackson-Reed's way against Roosevelt in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Jackson-Reed made off with a 24-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
