Metlakatla has been on the road for three straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. The Metlakatla Chiefs and the Wrangell Wolves will face off on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Metlakatla's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matches.
Last Saturday, Metlakatla strolled past Homer with points to spare, taking the game 65-47.
Meanwhile, Wrangell sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 40-37 win over Petersburg last Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Wrangell has posted against Petersburg since February 25, 2022.
Wrangell's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alana Harrison, who scored 13 points. Addy Andrews was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Metlakatla's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Wrangell, they pushed their record up to 2-0 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.
Metlakatla didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Wrangell in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, but they still walked away with a 51-47 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Wrangell's Kiara Harrison, who dropped a double-double on 33 points and 16 rebounds. Now that she won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Metlakatla to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
