The Wirt County Tigers are taking a road trip to challenge the St. Joseph Central Irish at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Wirt County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Wirt County blew Gilmer County out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday Gilmer County got their revenge. The Tigers fell just short of the Titans by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Tigers have suffered against the Titans since May 14, 2015.
Wyatt Boice was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Ewing, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph Central got the win against Tolsia on Thursday by a conclusive 8-2. The Irish might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 games by six runs or more this season.
Wyatt Pence was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Brody Runyon was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs.
St. Joseph Central is on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 20 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Wirt County, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Wirt County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like St. Joseph Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Wirt County came up short against St. Joseph Central when the teams last played back in April, falling 4-1. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
