2A-1 Region III District 12 recap October 29, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Maypearl, who defeated 846th ranked Life Red Oak, 45-38.
Godley extended the longest winning streak in 2A-1 Region III District 12 this week by beating Clifton, 17-14. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Wildcats.
The Mustangs' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. COLTEN ODER threw for 263 and 4 touchdowns and NICK FORDE had 109 yards receiving. On the ground KAINE BLAKE chipped in 146 yards. RICHARD TREVISO helped Life Red Oak's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 100 yards.
Life Red Oak's dynamic duo of ODER and FORDE proved tough for the Panthers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. TREVISO helped Life Red Oak's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 100 yards.
He was 19-42 with 2 interceptions.
Ty Mitchell provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Palmer lost to Grandview. He completed 20 passes for 310 yards and 3 touchdowns and also ran for 59 yards. Mitchell's key target this week was Jake Anglin, who caught 5 passes for 99 yards.
Whitney's Brett Gilchrist and Cole Brunett have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Gilchrist has thrown for 2,354 yards this season, while Brunett has 52 catches for 907 yards. BLAKE from Mike Underwood's team leads the league in rushing with 1,305 yards.
The Wildcats' Brunett is a few successful plays short of surpassing 1,000 yards receiving this season. He needs only 93 receiving yards against the Mustangs to hit that benchmark. So far this year, he has acheived 52 catches for 907 yards.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Whitney's Brunett goes up against Life Red Oak's PRESTON GRASE.
Next week's game between Kenneth Gilchrist's team and the Mustangs will feature a good passing match up as Gilchrist will test his arm against GRASE's defensive ability.
As it stands, the Cubs are in sixth, while the Zebras are in second.
Maypearl scaled the state rankings by moving to 923 from 989 this week, the biggest jump in the league. Gordon Jordan's team was able to move up by topping Life Red Oak 45-38.
