Beddingfield is 0-10 against Goldsboro since March of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Bruins will be playing at home against the Cougars at 6:30 p.m.
Beddingfield fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Spring Creek on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Gators by a score of 9-8. The Bruins have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Levi Sole was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Jamir Jones, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Goldsboro). They were the clear victors by a 20-1 margin over Eastern Wayne on Tuesday. With that win, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Joseph Hayes made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Goldsboro is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-8 otherwise. Hayes was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Avery Grant was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddox Bevell, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs.
Goldsboro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
The victory was the third in a row for Goldsboro, bringing their record up to 4-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Beddingfield, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.
Beddingfield suffered a grim 15-1 defeat to Goldsboro in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Will the Bruins have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
