The Cherokee County Warriors will take on the West Limestone Wildcats at 9:00 a.m. on Monday. Cherokee County's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so West Limestone's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Cherokee County took an eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Alexandria, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Warriors came out on top in a nail-biter against the Valley Cubs on Saturday, sneaking past 5-4. That's two games straight that the Warriors have won by just one run.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Wildcats on Monday. West Limestone put the hurt on Westminster Christian Academy with a sharp 8-2 win. Considering West Limestone has won 16 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Katie Lyn Kyle tossed a big game, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April.
At the plate, Aubrey Bethune was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. She has been hot, having posted at least one home run the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucee Legg, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
West Limestone hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive contests.
Cherokee County pushed their record up to 26-15 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for West Limestone, their record now sits at 31-2-1.
Cherokee County came up short against West Limestone in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 4-0. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
