Baseball Game Preview: White Pine Bobcats vs. Laughlin Cougars

White Pine has gone 8-2 against Laughlin recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Bobcats will look to defend their home field against the Cougars at 1:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Friday.

White Pine made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Awaken Christian, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bobcats' pitcher stepped up to hand the Lions a 17-0 shutout on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Bobcats, who have now won seven matches by eight runs or more so far this season.

Maddox Sedlacek made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. White Pine is 5-1 when Sedlacek posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Dylan Cessford was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of White Pine's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 7-1 (and 2-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Tucker Maestes, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

White Pine always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Awaken Christian only posted an OBP of .294.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Laughlin). They put the hurt on Beaver Dam with a sharp 19-9 victory on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

White Pine's win bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Laughlin, their victory bumped their record up to 2-9.

White Pine beat Laughlin 6-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Bobcats repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
