After a string of seven wins, the Liberty Lancers's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They were outmatched by Pine Creek at home and fell 72-44. The matchup was a close 24-23 at the break, but unfortunately for Liberty it sure didn't stay that way.
Several Lancers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jacie Bunck, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds. Alyssa Gardner was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
It was another big night for Brooklyn Stewart, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 15 rebounds for Pine Creek. Stewart hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Leekaya Burke-perryman, who scored 13 points along with six assists and three steals.
Liberty's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Pine Creek, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.
Liberty will be playing in front of their home fans against Palmer at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Leah Martinez and Bunck. As for Pine Creek, they will head out on the road to take on Pueblo West at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Pueblo West will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 49th, while Pine Creek is ranked ninth).
