On Saturday, Winfield was able to grind out a solid victory over Greenup County, taking the game 36-23. Given Winfield's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 32nd in West Virginia, while Greenup County is ranked 199th in Kentucky), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Winfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brooklyn Cole, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Cole hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Savannah Willard was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with two steals.
The win makes it two in a row for Winfield and bumps their season record up to 9-7. As for Greenup County, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-14.
Winfield will head out on the road to square off against Nitro at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Greenup County, they will be playing at home against West Carter at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Carter is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
