The Brunswick Pirates pushed their score all the way to 61 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Beach by a score of 64-61. Brunswick was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Beach apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2019.
Brunswick lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Caleb Butler, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Daron Monroe was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Brunswick were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Beach's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jayden Newton led the charge by scoring 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chandler Reid, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Brunswick has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season. As for Beach, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brunswick will take on Lakeside at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Lakeside focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Monday. As for Beach, they will head out on the road to face off against Johnson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
