Volleyball Recap: Thursday's Loss Ends Gardner-South Wilmington's Winning Streak

After a string of six wins, Gardner-South Wilmington's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 2-0 to the Yorkville Christian Mustangs. The Panthers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

While Gardner-South Wilmington ultimately came up short, they really made Yorkville Christian work, particularly in the second set. The final score came out to 25-19, 26-24.

Gardner-South Wilmington's offense was headlined by Maddie Simms and Grace Vitko, who picked up three kills apiece. Simms really made an impact as she also led the team in assists with four. Olivia Siano and Lily Buck kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with two aces apiece.

Gardner-South Wilmington's loss dropped their record down to 16-9. As for Yorkville Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-11-2 record this season.

Gardner-South Wilmington will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Dwight at 7:00 p.m. on the 22nd. As for Yorkville Christian, they have already played their next match, a 2-1 loss against Sterling on the 11th.
