Baseball Recap: Middlesex Drops Season-High Score on West Point

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Middlesex). They were the clear victors by an 18-1 margin over the West Point Pointers on Wednesday. With that victory, the Chargers brought their scoring average up to 7.4 runs per game.

Henry Fleet made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Middlesex's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-5 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Shane Glenn was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Jakub Bowen, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Middlesex always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Middlesex has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for West Point, they dropped their record down to 0-7 with the loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.
