Basketball Recap: Valor Academy Takes a Loss

If Valor Academy was feeling good fresh off their 65-42 takedown of Discovery last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Valor Academy took a 73-55 bruising from the Sun Valley Magnet Pioneers on Wednesday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against Valor Academy this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 80-59 back in January.

Despite the loss, Valor Academy still got an impressive performance from Maliqq Van Arsdale, who went 12 for 27 on his way to 28 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Those 28 points gave Van Arsdale a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cezar Jr Guanzon, who posted 12 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.

Valor Academy dropped their record down to 4-12 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Sun Valley Magnet, the win got them back to even at 9-9.

Valor Academy will be playing at home against Lake Balboa College Prep at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Valor Academy is facing Lake Balboa College Prep at the right time seeing as Lake Balboa College Prep is stuck on a three-game losing streak. Sun Valley Magnet has already played their next contest (against Magnolia Science Academy Reseda), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
