The Fairfield Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Groesbeck Goats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Fairfield is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Friday, Fairfield earned a 22-15 victory over Mexia.
Fairfield got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Evan Chavers out in front who rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Fairfield also got a significant boost from Jaylon Shed, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 146 yards.
Meanwhile, Groesbeck got themselves on the board against Kemp on Friday, but Kemp never followed suit. They claimed a resounding 56-0 win over the Yellowjackets on the road. Groesbeck pushed the score to 35-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Kemp had no chance of recovering from.
Their wins bumped Fairfield to 2-5 and Groesbeck to 5-1.
Everything went Fairfield's way against Groesbeck in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as Fairfield made off with a 28-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fairfield since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
