Wray is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Saturday. After each having a week off, they and the Holyoke Dragons will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 1:00 p.m. Wray has given up an average of 25.8 points per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Wray is likely headed into the contest with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Brush two weeks ago. The Eagles came up short against the Beetdiggers, falling 36-14. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Wray's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Aaron Tena, who gained 121 total yards and two touchdowns, and Wyatt Fonte, who threw for 130 yards and one touchdown on only 11 passes.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Holyoke). They blew past Peyton 49-14 two weeks ago.
Wray better keep an eye on Elbin Padilla. He was instrumental in Holyoke's win, picking up 75 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
Holyoke didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Peyton to a completion percentage of just 38.5%. The team can thank Jacob Quintana for the heroic effort on defense: he. Holyoke wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 60.9%.
Holyoke didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Colby Weber and Gustavo Goytia. Weber is also on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last three games he's played.
The victory got Holyoke back to even at 2-2. As for Wray, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 2-2.
Everything came up roses for Wray against Holyoke in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 49-7 win. In that game, the Eagles amassed a halftime lead of 42-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Saturday.
