South Pike will look to defend their home turf on Friday against Sumner at 7:00 PM. It might come down to the wire as the MaxPreps rankings project a close contest.
If South Pike were riding high off their 62-0 takedown of Amite County two weeks ago, that ride came to an abrupt end. South Pike fell to Tylertown 20-30. South Pike's defeat came about despite a quality game from senior Deldrionn Amos, who picked up 50 yards on the ground and caught passes for 85 yards. One of the most thrilling moments of the game was Amos's 75-yard TD reception in the third quarter.
Sumner had a rough outing against Kentwood, but a little bit of home cooking seems to have fixed things right up. Everything went Sumner's way against Independence last Friday as they made off with a 34-6 victory.
Sumner's win lifted them to 2-1 while South Pike's loss dropped them down to 3-2. Sumner's offensive line will need to gear up for a tough test against a South Pike defensive front that amassed four sacks against Tylertown, so we'll see if they are up to the task.
