Lebbeus Overton of
Milton (Ga.) announced Thursday that he is reclassifying to the Class of 2022, releasing a top five that includes Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas A&M. The 6-foot-4, 265-pound multi-sport star has been playing varsity football since eighth grade and helped lead Milton to the AAAAAAA state championship game in December.
Overton was selected to the MaxPreps Junior All-America first team after posting 54 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks and 31 quarterback hurries in 2021. The Eagles finished the year 13-2 and lost to Collins Hill (Suwanee) 24-8 in the title game.
During the 2020-21 school year, he was named the MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year and MaxPreps Male High School Athlete of the Year. He racked up 70 tackles, 38 tackles for loss, 21.5 sacks and forced six fumbles on the gridiron while averaging 12 points and 12 rebounds on the hardwood. Milton went 11-1 in football that season and 28-3 in basketball, winning the AAAAAAA state title and finishing the year ranked at No. 7 in the MaxPreps Top 25.
Overton became the first sophomore to be named the MaxPreps Male Athlete of the Year since 2010-11 when Dorial Green-Beckham took home that honor.
Before transferring to Milton he posted 105 tackles, 42 tackles for loss and 19 sacks as a freshman at
Bessemer Academy (Bessemer, Ala.). He was named to the MaxPreps Freshman All-America second team.
Overton was the No. 3 prospect overall in the 247Sports Composite Rankings for the Class of 2023 and No. 1 defensive lineman.
He joins
Sonny Styles of
Pickerington Central (Pickerington, Ohio) as standout players from the Class of 2023 to reclassify to 2022. Styles was a first team selection on the MaxPreps Junior All-America squad and signed with Ohio State in December during the early signing period.
