The Alcorn Central Bears will square off against the New Site Royals at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
New Site will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Alcorn Central extended their winning streak to five on Tuesday. The Bears were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Tishomingo County. While the Bears didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Meanwhile, New Site never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Hickory Flat with a sharp 12-0 victory. With that win, the Royals brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.
Jaxson McKinney and Glen Ashton Jumper were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, McKinney pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Jumper pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2025. At the plate, McKinney got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Jumper went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Jumper is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jayden Greene, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. New Site is undefeated when Greene posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Dawson Trout, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI.
New Site always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Alcorn Central's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for New Site, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Alcorn Central has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like New Site struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Alcorn Central couldn't quite get it done against New Site in their previous meeting back in February of 2020 as they fell 10-5. Can the Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
