The Brookfield Academy Blue Knights will head out to challenge the Luther Prep Phoenix at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Brookfield Academy's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last five contests.
Brookfield Academy is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Shoreland Lutheran just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Monday. They lost 20-10 to the Pacers.
Elisabeth Wilson and Lila Mason did some serious damage despite the final result: Wilson went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Mason went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one triple. That triple was Wilson's first of the season. Jiana Jaeckle was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Luther Prep got themselves on the board against St. Francis on Thursday, but St. Francis never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Mariners. The Phoenix might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by six runs or more this season.
Addy Schmidt made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Luther Prep got a massive performance out of Callie Peil, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Another player making a difference was Myah Pederson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Luther Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.
Brookfield Academy's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Luther Prep, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Brookfield Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .477. However, it's not like Luther Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .439. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Brookfield Academy might still be hurting after the 13-3 defeat they got from Luther Prep in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Blue Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
