4A Region I District 6 recap October 22, 2013
Dunbar extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region I District 6 this week by beating Carter-Riverside, 63-0. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
Poly scaled the state rankings by moving to 1,075 from 1,118 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Parrots climbed the ranks as a result of falling to Eastern Hills 71-19.
Saginaw's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. John Polston threw for 43 yards and Austin Wright had 30 yards receiving. On the ground Jaylen King contributed 63 yards. Bryson Bird helped Saginaw's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 10 yards.
King was the best running back in the league this week. In 18 carries, he ran for 63 yards as the Rough Riders fell to Birdville. Teammate Polston added to the ground attack by rushing for 24 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Will Hayward and Xavier Turner, the Hawks have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Hayward is tops in the league in passing with 994 yards, while Turner has rushed for 1,390 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is Saginaw's Wright, with 468 yards on 25 catches.
A big matchup in 4A Region I District 6 this week will be when Birdville takes on Chisholm Trail. At the moment, Jim Skinner's team is in second, while the Rangers are in sixth.
Dunbar took down the Eagles 63-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
