The Greely Rangers will face off against the Lake Region Lakers on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Greely comes in on five and Lake Region on three.
Greely is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They put the hurt on Leavitt with a sharp 12-1 victory. The Rangers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by seven runs or more this season.
Keeler Vogt made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Greely got a big performance out of Kyle Soule, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Wes Piper, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Greely was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Leavitt only posted a batting average of .158.
Meanwhile, Lake Region faced York in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Lakers walked away with an 11-6 win over the Wildcats.
Brock Gibbens was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Wilson, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Greely's victory bumped their record up to 14-3. As for Lake Region, their win bumped their record up to 14-4.
Greely suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Lake Region in their previous matchup back in May. Can the Rangers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
