At the plate, Silvio Giardina and Richard Tonte did most of the damage at the plate: Giardina went 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI, while Tonte went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave Giardina a new career-high. Dom Innamorati was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Pittston hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Wyoming Valley West fell victim to Wilkes-Barre and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolfpack.
Wyoming Valley West also got a good showing from Derek Rukstalis, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Wyoming Valley West saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was D'Vonte Rivers, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Rivers has become a key player for the Spartans: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-8 otherwise.
Pittston's win was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-0. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 8.4 runs thus far. As for Wyoming Valley West, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.
Wyoming Valley West's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pittston hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .406. It's a different story for Wyoming Valley West, though, as they've only averaged .225. Will they be able to contain Pittston's hitters?
