Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2022 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Micah Alejado of
Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) is the 2022 MaxPreps Nevada High School Football Player of the Year. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound junior quarterback put up eye-popping numbers for the Gaels, who went 13-1 en route to the Class 5A state title.
Alejado threw for 3,403 yards and had 53 touchdowns against just two interceptions while completing 75.9 percent of his passes. He added 335 yards on the ground and three more scores.
Ranked No. 4 in this week's MaxPreps Top 25, Gorman beat Bishop Manogue (Reno) 70-6 in Nevada's big school title game to bring home the program's 19th state championship. The lone blemish on the season for the Gaels was a 24-21 loss against national No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) in late August.
Alejado began his junior campaign by completing 22 of 25 attempts for 306 yards and three touchdowns in a 42-7 win over Utah power Corner Canyon. Two weeks later in another lopsided win over an out-of-state heavyweight in St. Louis of Hawaii, he connected on 18 of 22 attempts for 293 yards and five scores.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released January 10.
