The Eastern Montgomery Mustangs will head out to square off against the Giles Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Eastern Montgomery had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Parry McCluer on Thursday. The Mustangs blew past the Yosemite Sam 13-3.
Coltin Conner and Caleb Jones made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Conner didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Jones tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Eastern Montgomery is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-5 otherwise. At the plate, Conner went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Jones got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Owen Keith was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Mason Phoenix was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Eastern Montgomery always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Giles got themselves on the board against Bland County on Thursday, but Bland County never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over the Bears. The contest marked the Spartans' most dominant victory of the season.
The team relied heavily on Josiah Schlueter, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Brier Underwood also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Giles is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Eastern Montgomery, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Eastern Montgomery has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Giles struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Eastern Montgomery got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March of 2025 against Giles by a conclusive 10-2 score. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
