The Whitley County Colonels will take on the Mercer County Titans at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Whitley County took a 11-run loss the last time they faced off against Leslie County, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Colonels came out on top in a nail-biter against the Eagles on Saturday, sneaking past 15-13. The win was nothing new for the Colonels as they're now sitting on four straight.

Caylee Singleton made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Hallie Huddleston was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Cami Price was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Whitley County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Mercer County posted their closest victory since April 16, 2024 on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Bethlehem 5-3.
Like Whitley County, Mercer County also got a great game from a two-way player: Ava Musick. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Musick was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on KJ Sutton, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Emory Thompson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Whitley County's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-10. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.5 runs over those games. As for Mercer County, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5-1.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Whitley County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Mercer County struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Whitley County suffered a grim 13-3 defeat to Mercer County in their previous matchup back in March of 2019. Will the Colonels have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
