2A Region 5 recap October 29, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 2A Region 5 this week, Lake beat Union 40-20. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Hornets.
The Yellowjackets lost to Lake 40-20 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Enterprise's dynamic duo of Jason McCutheon and Ly Johntay Horton proved to be unstoppable against Scott Central, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. McCutheon threw for 77 yards and 1 touchdown and Horton had 22 yards receiving. Jacob Cunningham helped Enterprise's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 28 yards.
Deante Couch made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Bulldogs lost to the Rebels. He recorded 1 fumble and grabbed 1 sack.
John Spivey was a passing and rushing force as Jeff Breland's team defeated Union.
Lake's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Hornets feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Matt Mitchell has thrown for 528 yards and 4 touchdowns this season, while Chris Johnson has 9 catches for 240 yards.
Cade Gibson of the Enterprise is only 88 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 119 carries Gibson has accumulated 912 yard this year.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when Lake and Kelly Jimmerson's team face off next week.
At the moment, the Hornets are in first, while the Bulldogs are in fifth.
There should be lots of points scored when Lake and Enterprise face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Hornets comes in having scored 324 this season, while the Bulldogs have scored 182. Lake scored 40 points last week as it bested Brad Breland's team.
The Hornets led the league in scoring this week after putting up 40 points on the Yellowjackets. Spivey ran for 164 yards in the win.
