McDonald County managed to keep up with Seneca until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. McDonald County ended up on the wrong side of a rough 38-14 walloping at the hands of Seneca. While losing is never fun, McDonald County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri football rankings (they are ranked 99th, while Seneca is ranked 23rd).
Meanwhile, East Newton suffered a tough 32-7 loss at the hands of Aurora on Friday. East Newton has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
McDonald County's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 4-4. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Seneca, Lamar, and Nevada. East Newton has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.
Everything went McDonald County's way against East Newton in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as McDonald County made off with a 40-14 win. Will McDonald County repeat their success, or does East Newton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
