Chatham and Dan River are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Cavaliers will venture away from home to face off against the Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Chatham has given up an average of 9.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Chatham fell victim to William Campbell and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 19-0 to the Generals. The Cavaliers haven't had much luck with the Generals recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Meanwhile, while Dan River put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Gretna. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Hawks. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Lucy Isom looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Bayleigh Merricks was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Kenley Cundiff was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.
Dan River was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Dan River is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Chatham, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.
Chatham suffered a grim 17-6 defeat to Dan River in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Cavaliers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
