The Cathedral Catholic Dons are taking a road trip to square off against the Rancho Bernardo Broncos at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cathedral Catholic's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Rancho Bernardo's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Cathedral Catholic is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest loss since May 28, 2024 on Wednesday. They came up short against La Costa Canyon, falling 8-1. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Dons couldn't push the score so high this time.
Cathedral Catholic got a good showing from Travis Ridgway, who tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Ridgway has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Cathedral Catholic saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Harrington, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Rancho Bernardo posted their closest win since May 7, 2024 on Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past Eastlake 5-4.
Rancho Bernardo also got a great performance from Brayden Kotera as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Brady Strachan was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). HUGO GONZALEZ was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Cathedral Catholic moved to 6-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Rancho Bernardo, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-6.
Cathedral Catholic might still be hurting after the 9-3 loss they got from Rancho Bernardo in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Dons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
