The Cory-Rawson Fighting Hornets will head out on the road to face off against the Upper Scioto Valley Rams at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Cory-Rawson took a 16-run defeat the last time they faced off against Arcadia, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Fighting Hornets had just enough and edged out the Redskins 6-5 on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Fighting Hornets.
Shyler Ludwig spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Dom Moon, who went 2-for-3 with six stolen bases and three runs. Those six stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Hank Walters was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Upper Scioto Valley came out on top against Waynesfield-Goshen on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. The Rams had just enough and edged out the Tigers 7-5. Winning may never get old, but the Rams sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Maddox Underwood made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Upper Scioto Valley is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-7 otherwise. Underwood was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Underwood wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Wyatt Davis, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Upper Scioto Valley is undefeated when Davis posts two or more runs, but 3-8 otherwise.
Upper Scioto Valley's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-8. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Cory-Rawson, their record now sits at 4-13.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cory-Rawson has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Upper Scioto Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Cory-Rawson suffered a grim 13-3 defeat to Upper Scioto Valley in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Fighting Hornets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
