La Junta is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Pagosa Springs is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The La Junta Tigers will take on the Pagosa Springs Pirates at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (La Junta is ranked 65th, while Pagosa Springs is ranked 77th).
La Junta started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Florence. They and the Huskies were almost perfectly matched up on Friday, but they suffered an agonizing 14-13 defeat.
Rylan Schmidt put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 212 yards and two touchdowns. Schmidt is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last five games he's played.
Meanwhile, Pagosa Springs can now show off three landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Thursday. They breezed by Bayfield on the road to the tune of 40-7. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 33-0.
Pagosa Springs can attribute much of their success to Seth Zeigler, who rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries, and also threw for 68 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Creede Dozier was another key contributor, throwing for 73 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes.
La Junta's loss dropped their record down to 8-1. As for Pagosa Springs, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
La Junta strolled past Pagosa Springs in their previous matchup back in September by a score of 22-6. Will La Junta repeat their success, or does Pagosa Springs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
