Coalfield AA recap September 10, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to PikeView, who defeated 86th ranked Independence, 9-6.
Sherman's Aaron Lowe rumbled for the longest rushing play in Coalfield AA this season in his game against Calhoun last week. Lowe's team bested the Red Devils as he sprinted for 61 yards on the play and finished with 83 in all.
Wyoming East's dynamic duo of Aaron Griffith and Christian Hedinger proved tough for WestSide to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Griffith threw for 210 yards and 3 touchdowns and Hedinger had 105 yards receiving. Jacob Dulcie helped Wyoming East's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 84 yards.
The Warriors' dynamic duo of Griffith and Hedinger proved to be unstoppable against the Renegades, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Walker Lawson was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 14 carries, he ran for 171 yards as Webster County defeated WestSide. Teammate Jacob Thayer added to the ground attack by rushing for 80 yards.
Josh Buffington was a key player and the best on defense this week as Sherman defeated Calhoun. The 5-foot-10 junior grabbed 4.0 sacks.
Hedinger was the best wideout in the league this week as Gary Poindexter's team topped Larry Cook's team.
He was 12-15 with 2 interceptions.
Griffith put up the best numbers through the air as the Warriors topped the Renegades.
6-foot-1 quarterback Griffith of Wyoming East is the league leader in passing yards this season with 336. He has also thrown 6 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Dalton Davis. The Webster County star has 8 catches for 199 yards.
One of Coalfield AA's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when the Warriors and J.D. Fairchild II's team face off next week.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Wyoming East takes on the Tide. The Warriors are currently in first, while Sherman is in seventh.
The Panthers were the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from 12th to eighth in the league. PikeView beat the Patriots 9-6 earlier in the week.
