The Maplewood Rockets will take on the Aquinas Knights in a tournament on Wednesday. Maplewood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Maplewood and Chalker meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Rockets narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Wildcats 3-2.

Addison Marker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Claire Urchek was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.
11 must be Aquinas' lucky number: they beat East with that score not once but twice on Monday. The Knights didn't even let the Dragons on the board, marking the Knights' second-straight 11-0 shutout. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Knights.
Jocelyn Powell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Powell was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Aquinas got a massive performance out of Annabelle Davies, who went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. With that strong performance, Davies is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Jaida Mohr-Roberts, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Maplewood has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That somehow still isn't as good as their 17-4 record this season. As for Aquinas, their win bumped their record up to 2-16.
Aquinas' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Maplewood hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .353. It's a different story for Aquinas, though, as they've only averaged .206. Will they be able to contain Maplewood's hitters?
