Baseball Recap: Perry Gets the Win

Perry won the last time they faced Botkins and things went their way on Thursday too. The Commodores walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Trojans. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Commodores.

Hunter Scott made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brodey Douce, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Perry's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Sylas Johnson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Perry hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Botkins struck out nine times.

Perry's record is now 7-3. As for Botkins, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Perry will welcome Riverside at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last. As for Botkins, they will challenge Waynesfield-Goshen at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.13 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
