Poquoson and Warhill are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Islanders will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Lions at 4:30 p.m. Both teams are still undefeated (Poquoson has five wins , while Warhill has six dating back to last season).
Poquoson proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by six) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over York.
Poquoson got a great performance from Natalie Klochak as she pitched 6.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. Klochak has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Alyssa Laney and Brooklyn Mason did most of the damage at the plate: Laney scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Mason scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Mason is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
Poquoson hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three strikeouts batters in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Warhill posted their closest victory since April 8, 2024 on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Jamestown 3-1. The three-run effort marked the Lions' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Skyler Wilson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up ten Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.7 strikeouts per game.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ella White, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Keamani Fujimoto, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Poquoson pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Warhill, their win bumped their record up to 6-0.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Poquoson hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Warhill struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Poquoson took their victory against Warhill in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-2 score. Will the Islanders repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
