The East Helena Vigilantes will challenge the Stevensville Yellowjackets at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. East Helena is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
East Helena took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Park as they made off with an 8-2 victory.
East Helena let Madison Hogue and Maya Westerhold run wild. Hogue went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one double, while Westerhold went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Westerhold has snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Surginer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.
East Helena was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Stevensville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Hamilton 10-9. Ten seems to be a good number for the Yellowjackets as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Morgan Yeager spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, Lilly Newsom and Jaidan Oyler did most of the damage at the plate: Newsom went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Oyler went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Newsom is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Molly Davids was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Stevensville is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for East Helena, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. East Helena has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .454. However, it's not like Stevensville struggles in that department as they've averaged .483. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
