The Mountain View Mavericks will head out to face off against the Vallivue Falcons at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Mountain View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Mountain View is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Bishop Kelly, who was ranked seventh at the time (Mountain View was ranked 16th). Mountain View had just enough and edged out Bishop Kelly 9-8. The Mavericks haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Emersen Lukoic was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Tayelynn Puyleart, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Lukoic wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Mountain View kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. Mountain View is a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Vallivue made sure to put some runs up on the board against Columbia on Friday. Vallivue was the clear victor by a 19-3 margin over Columbia. Considering the Falcons have won five matchups by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Bella Magallon was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Addyson Aguila also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.
Vallivue's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Mountain View, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mountain View hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Vallivue struggles in that department as they've averaged .436. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mountain View took their victory against Vallivue in their previous matchup back in April of 2016 by a conclusive 13-2. Does Mountain View have another victory up their sleeve, or will Vallivue turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
