The John Paul II Centurions can finally bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They blew past Texas School for the Deaf 61-28 at home. The victory was just what John Paul II needed coming off of a 75-40 loss in their prior contest.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead John Paul II to victory, but perhaps none more so than Joseph Mata, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Mata has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 11 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Eliseo Garcia, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
John Paul II's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 13-18. As for Texas School for the Deaf, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. The Centurions will face off against the Guardians at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Texas School for the Deaf's road trip will continue as they head out to face Holy Cross at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Holy Cross presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Texas School for the Deaf in Texas (Holy Cross is ranked 494th, while Texas School for the Deaf is ranked 1202nd).
