After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Veritas Prep, the Anthem Prep Eagles were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They blew past North Phoenix Preparatory Academy 48-19 at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Anthem Prep has posted yet this season.
Amanda Gandolfo continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 19 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds. She also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Purvis, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and six blocks.
Despite the defeat, North Phoenix Preparatory Academy had strong showings from Ellaina Wakeham, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds and three blocks, and Samantha Daniel, who scored no points. Wakeham has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 12 times she's played. Sabrina Daniel was another key contributor, scoring three points along with ten rebounds and five steals.
Anthem Prep has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. As for North Phoenix Preparatory Academy, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Anthem Prep will take on Antelope at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Antelope comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 14 points in their last nine games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. North Phoenix Preparatory Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against North Valley Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th. North Valley Christian Academy is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
