The Wooster Colts are taking a road trip to square off against the North Valleys Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wooster is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Wooster is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Truckee just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolverines.
Cayden Corl was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, North Valleys' rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Sparks a 20-0 shutout. Considering the Panthers have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Caden Birch made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zach Clarke, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Alejandro Urbina, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
North Valleys hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive games.
North Valleys is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Wooster, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-9-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Wooster has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like North Valleys struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Wooster might still be hurting after the 14-8 loss they got from North Valleys in their previous meeting on April 5th. Can the Colts avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
