Westwood found their leader in freshman Lyric Rogers, who went 5 of 11 en route to 14 points. Those 14 points gave Rogers a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Destiny Omeire, who posted nine points.
Westwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Blythewood hadn't done well against Sumter recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way last Tuesday. Blythewood came out on top against Sumter by a score of 54-46. Given the Bengals' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Gamecocks are ranked 63rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Blythewood's win came from a few key players Westwood will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Chase Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. The contest was her 16th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of India Williams, who put up 16 points and five boards.
Blythewood pushed their record up to 18-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.5 points per game. As for Westwood, their victory bumped their record up to 9-11.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Westwood has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 32.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Blythewood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.4 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Westwood came up short against Blythewood in their previous matchup on January 3rd, falling 61-50. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten boards. Now that Westwood knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
