Baseball Recap: Kingsburg's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

Kingsburg dropped their record down to 15-7 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell 5-2 to the Selma Bears. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bears earlier this season, when they won 8-4.

Nick Lindgren was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March.

At the plate, Jensen Hirschkorn made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

As for Selma, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-7. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games.

On Selma's side, Jovani Tovar was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Tovar has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

Tovar wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Matheo Roque, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Roque has posted since back in May of 2024. Another was Braden Francis, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kingsburg will host Santa Cruz at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Selma, they will welcome Hanford West at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
