If the Cumberland Pirates were riding high off their 61-34 takedown of the Tri-County [Kansas/Shiloh/Oakland] Titans last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Cumberland fell 56-47 to Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond on Tuesday. Cumberland was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Cumberland lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kelby Bierman. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Zack Harmon, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.
Connor Nettles continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, scoring 23 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nettles has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Will Hilligoss, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Cumberland's defeat dropped their record down to 9-16. As for Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-16.
Cumberland will be playing in front of their home fans against Argenta-Oreana at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Argenta-Oreana is coming into the matchup with three straight wins on the road, so Cumberland is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum. As for Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, they will challenge Tri-County [Kansas/Shiloh/Oakland] at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Averaging 45.46 points so far this season, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Tri-County [Kansas/Shiloh/Oakland] better be ready for a challenge.
