5A Region II District 15 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Bowie moved up to 229 from 423 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region II District 15. A 31-20 win over Roosevelt helped the Bulldogs improve their standing.
Bowie was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. Jeff Ables's team vanquished the Rough Riders 31-20 earlier in the week.
Baker Mayfield and Varshaun Nixon gave Lake Travis a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Mayfield threw for 255 yards and two touchdowns, while Nixon ran for 204 yards.
Josh Cleveland was the best wideout in the league this week as Del Valle lost to Rouse. Cleveland racked up two receptions for 95 yards. Denzel Feaster helped Del Valle's passing attack out by catching six balls for 51 yards.
The Cavaliers' Mayfield and Zach Austin have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A Region II District 15 in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Mayfield has thrown for 1182 yards this season, while Austin has 17 catches for 428 yards. Cleveland from the Cardinals leads the league in rushing with 538 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Lake Travis takes on Austin. Hank Carter's team's offense has recorded 152 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Maroons have permitted only 149 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Cavaliers take on Austin. Lake Travis is in first place, while Mike Rosenthal's team is in sixth place.
The Bulldogs made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,017 from 4,008. The improvement was the result of 31-20 victory over Roosevelt last week.
